In order to maintain and deliver excellence in educational innovation and research, undergraduate and postgraduate education has been enhanced; and to meet critical business needs for blended/hybrid and distance/online learning, FoDOCS CDE is recruiting a new Education Lecturer position. The nomination is for the Academic Training Pathway (AEP), which is focused on the delivery of education, including educational leadership. As an indication, 80% of a staff member’s activities will be represented by a combination of academic leadership and innovation, teaching, supervision, student support and administration and the remaining 20% ​​will be devoted to the stock market.

This new position will play a key role in collaborative visioning, planning and organizing by helping to develop, bring together, teach and assess a range of intellectually dynamic faculties and cross-faculty undergraduate modules on topics related to cultural competence, King’s-wide new program and service, initiatives under One King’s, King’s First Year. The post holder will also be expected to draw on the latest research and pedagogies, articulating the meaningful interface between inclusive education, culture(s), language(s) and identity/identities, exploring both theorizing cultural competence in all disciplines and its application in various social, community and professional contexts, as well as expertise in educational methods for assessing clinical competence. In addition, the new incumbent should also bring expertise in mixed methods (strong working knowledge of the application of statistics to educational research). This new position is expected to have a strong teaching and research record to complement existing strengths in education and bring additional education expertise that will help fill the void and impact NSS, PTES and REF returns.

• Undertake internationally renowned educational research complementary to the Faculty’s overall research strategy

• Support nationally and internationally funded education projects, curriculum development and online assessments

• Supervise educational research projects at UG, PG and PhD levels

• Assess rich educational datasets from school curricula (eg skills assessments, e-portfolio, simulation).

• Apply the breadth of educational research designs, both in conducting mixed methods, quantitative and qualitative research (working knowledge in statistical analysis applied to educational research)

• Support and assist other FoDOCS CDE members who have less experience in educational research to publish an educational research initiative

• Contribute to the FODOCS teaching staff development program to develop staff capacities and skills for curriculum development and innovative pedagogical approaches

• Support the university’s 2029 vision and initiatives

This position will report to the Dean of Education and Head of the FoDOCS Center for Dental Education and Academic Lead for Digital Education.

Main responsibilities

• Contribute to teaching in the Dentistry and Society and Clinical Humanities modules of UG, as well as PG where applicable, undertaking curriculum design and development with program teams

• Contribute to teaching in modules and programs of study relevant to the role;

• Supervise educational research projects at both UG, PG and PhD level and collaborate with the three other members of the FoDOCS Center who are interested in co-research projects in education

• Conduct research in education (design of mixed methods, quantitative and qualitative research, statistical analysis applied to research in education);

• Undertake high quality research related to the FoDOCS CDE themes (Clinical Humanities, Clinical Simulation, Curriculum and Education Evaluation, Cariology and Science Education);

• Writing research grant proposals, main publications in the field of expertise

• Provide support in our blended, online and essential in-person support to staff and students in the development of digital and online learning resources

• Engage in the development of learning and teaching methodologies, including contributing to new initiatives and upcoming TEL development projects, e-learning requirements for curriculum changes, review and updating blended and distance learning programs,

• Support internationally funded education projects, curricula and online assessment development

• Assess rich educational datasets from school curricula (eg skills assessments, e-portfolio, simulation).

• Contribute to the FODOCS teaching staff development program to develop staff capacities and skills for curriculum development and innovative pedagogical approaches

Skills, knowledge and experience

• Teaching experience at HE level

• Experience in conducting educational research

• Knowledge of inclusive education, cultural competence and its application in diverse social, community and professional contexts, as well as knowledge of mixed methods design, education and learning theories, pedagogical practices in health care and related disciplines

Essential criteria

  1. Advanced degree and PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g. Education, Educational Technology, Dental Education)
  2. Teaching experience at HE level (with HEA scholarship or equivalent; co-teaching experience in health care practice/cultural competence/inclusive education desirable)
  3. Experience in mixed methods analysis applied to educational research
  4. Expertise in teaching methods in assessment (desirable if applied to assessment of clinical competence)
  5. Evidence of scholarship and publications in the field of education and educational research nationally and internationally. (Desirable evidence of research excellence with a publication history (expected level based on REF 3* – 4* profile)
  6. Commitment to developing funded research in the field and educational advice
  7. Proficiency in information technology sufficient to be able to use/update e-learning platforms and deliver online instruction (desirable: ability to contribute to academic policy formulation and strategic planning at faculty level and the institute).
  8. Experience in evaluating education datasets for quality assurance
  9. Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and with people from diverse backgrounds
  10. Evidence of commitment to personal learning, academic and professional development.
