RTE broadcaster Doireann Garrihy has revealed she was in ‘throbbing pain’ after making an emergency dental appointment due to an infected wisdom tooth.
The 2FM radio presenter said the pain had started a week earlier but had become so agonizing that she is now unable to open her mouth comfortably.
Taking to Instagram on Monday, Doireann turned to her followers for some much-needed medical advice, wondering if it’s possible to get a wisdom tooth the same day of a consultation.
“So I’m not trying to look like a big hound but I’m still not right since Carl’s wedding but zero regrets girls. Zero regrets, best craic ever. began the broadcaster, discussing his plans over the weekend.
“I feel like I’ve bewitched myself, I called a dental hygienist on Thursday just to get my teeth cleaned – I think my appointment is next week.” Anyway, the next day my wisdom tooth starts beating and hasn’t stopped since.
Doireann went on to detail the excruciating pain, revealing that she managed to book a last minute appointment with her dentist.
“I can’t even open my mouth to eat things, the pain. Anyway, I got a date for tonight, so I hope… I’d like them to release it tonight. Do they ever do that?
The breakfast show host began to freak out about having a tooth removed so soon, slowly realizing she had a show to host in less than 24 hours.
“Well, the general consensus on Instagram is that it’s fine to take it down today, but I have to talk on the radio tomorrow morning. You know I have to talk to people, so we’ll wait and see.
Despite the panic, Doireann managed to update fans, letting them know that although badly infected, she would still have to wait another month to have a tooth extracted.
She says; “He is badly infected, needs antibiotics and to be out in four weeks. My teeth have become too old for the session.
While her supporters were adamant she should just have the tooth removed as soon as possible, Doireann revealed that was unfortunately not possible; “The dentist said the infection had to go away first, otherwise it would be way too painful and I can’t open my jaw wide enough for an extraction. Charm !’
