The Washington DC VA Medical Center Dental Department opened a new dental clinic at the Charlotte Hall Community Outpatient Clinic on October 21, 2022.
The new location provides many veterans living in Maryland with faster commute times and access to state-of-the-art care by providing:
- Digital x-rays
- Digital prints
- Same day digitally milled ceramic restorations and crowns
- Exams
- Dental Oral cancer screening
- Dental prophylaxis and fluoride application
- Restorations
- crown and bridge
- Root canal therapy
- Sleep apnea treatment
- Periodontal treatment
- Treatment of temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD)
- Implant assessment and assessment
Chief Dental Officer Trina Jones-Richardson, DDS., said the new facility is the product of two years of hard work, collaboration and support from multiple departments at the Washington DC VA Medical Center.
“So many departments and people have come together to play a role in this achievement,” she said. “And finally, last Thursday, we were able to treat our first patient. It was an exciting day for our team!
The clinic was due to open on Friday October 21 and contacted army veteran George Durgin about being their first patient when they saw he was scheduled at another location, further from home. Durgin was unable to change his appointment from Thursday to Friday, so the dental team at Charlotte Hall opened a day early to accommodate the veteran.
“It was so nice that they took the time to call me and offer me a more convenient date, but they really went above and beyond from there,” Durgin said. “The experience was outstanding, the location so convenient and the staff were friendly and kind from the second they called, to the time they walked me to the front desk to schedule my next appointment in six month.
Durgin was the first patient to be treated at the new dental facility and was extremely pleased with the care he received. As a retired veteran and Public Health Service employee for 16 years, he believes VA always bends over backwards to provide health care to veterans.
“I can’t sing their praises enough,” Durgin said. “I will always choose VA for all my healthcare needs because of their dedication to us veterans.”
