$26,000 in free dental care provided at FSW event

Florida SouthWestern State College’s Give Kids A Smile Day event, held March 24-25, provided approximately $26,000 in free dental services to 85 children in the Southwest Florida community.

Services provided by FSW dental hygiene students included free dental cleanings, x-rays, fluoride treatments and sealants. The students also provided health promotion and disease prevention activities to children and parents who attended the event. Dental examinations were performed by FSW dentists and three dentists from the Lee County Dental Society.

“Our Give Kids A Smile Day event was a great success,” said Karen Molumby, FSW Dental Hygiene Program Director. “We have provided dental services to children who otherwise may not have had access to dental care, and our students have gained valuable clinical experience in providing oral health services to older children. from 3 to 17 years old.

The FSW Dental Hygiene Clinic also offers low-cost dental services Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Building A, FSW Lee Campus, 8099 College Parkway, Fort Myers.
